People called her ‘The Queen of Pop’, the ultimate ‘The Dancing Queen’ and now even as ‘The Queen of Hip-hop’. With the groovy songs and complicated dance moves, Namie Amuro is really a superb singer who has lived up to her titles, even though there were jumps between her genre of music. Anybody who have seen her on stage would know what I mean. Her performances were always energetic, non-stop dancing with lots of difficult moves (try that with live singing as well) and great showmanship that earns five thumbs up for sure.

She has been global, work with various famous and talented producers both locally and internationally, probably more than her all time rival, Ayumi Hamasaki. When she was 12, Amuro was spotted and discovered by Masayuki Makino, the owner of the Okinawa Actors School while she was at the art center to visit her friend. She was immediately signed at the school as well. Namie Amuro first debuted in 1992 when she was only 14, with the all girl group called themselves as ‘Super Monkey’, which subsequents turmoil and acts had reproduced a girl group known as MAX.

Not long after that, Amuro had a major kick off to her solo career. She was actually notice by Tetsuya Komuro, the producer/songwriter who would go on to shape her early career, and with him, she had made many great award winning musics and sold millions of copies of records. At this time too, she had became the icon of many Japanese girls. They were singing her songs at karaokes, during singing competition and there were many who wanted to be just like her. She had a total up till now, 12 albums including 4 greatest hits, 34 hit singles, 12 tour concerts throughout her active years, 5 dramas and 2 movies.

  • Namie Amuro is one-quarter Italian, probably on her father’s side.
  • Her old songs are among the top plays for karaoke picks while her latest ones are more of those usual on play at young generation disco and party place.
  • Namie Amuro has also worked with many other Japanese top bands and solo artists like M-flo, Double and many more.
  • She proved her talent as a songwriter through her song titled ‘Say the word’, the first song she ever wrote and sing herself.
  • She was the youngest ever Japanese artist to win the Grand Prix Awards Japan (Japan’s equivalent to Grammys and she had won it twice.
