This might be something that you could only find in Japan. Elsewhere in the world, they don’t really directly called it love hotels. There are motels and cabanas which somewhat offers the same kind of service. Here’s many words about Japan’s so-called ‘love hotel’, a really stand-out social phenomena in the land of the rising sun.

What are Love Hotels?

When you hear a Japanese say ‘Rabu-rabu Hoteru’, it might seems a little weird for those who never happens to come across the term. They simply means the ‘Love Hotel’ – hotels meant to cater couple who wanted privacy together. The hotel itself, does not provide any sexual services themselves, mind you.

Where Can You Find Love Hotels?

Love Hotel JapanLove hotels are usually found close to entertainment districts and along major highways and you can identified it using symbols like hearts. There are various types of rooms which you usually can view and choose at the counter. Some have pictures of the room and some have it on the TV screens. The rooms are based on by-hour rent, so you will know that you have wandered into a love hotel districts when you notice hourly rates posted near the front door and there are gaudy structures, lots of colorful lights and extravagant building designs like European castle, Ocean liners with boats and many more other outrageous designs.

Love Hotel Rates and Design

There are room rates for a ‘rest’ or an ‘overnight stay’. The rates differ according to hotels but it is obviously cheaper daytime (off-peak) than at night. The overnight stay is only applicable 10:00 pm and above. The period for a rest time is about one to three hours. The rates usually starts at ¥2500 above depending on locations. Don’t be surprised with the interior. Most are very fancy with low strange lights, mirrors and gives out a romantic mood. Some even include with S&M gears – but of course those with all these are much more expensive the the basic ones. Cheaper hotels are usually much more utilitarian.

Because many of them have reasonable overnight rates as well, you may find yourself out too late and far away from home and needed a place to stay for a night, so you can still checked into love hotels solo as your alternative accommodation while touring Japan.
